Luscious Offerings to Nourish Your Soul – The Dessert Lady, Revisited

Our beautiful evening started with the preview cocktail party at the Orlando Museum of Art with the Antiques and Garden Show. Elegantly dressed patrons, free-flowing champagne, cocktails, and delicious offerings via Arthur’s Catering; it was bound to be a great night.

Since we had our party shoes on and we weren’t ready to call it a night, once more I found myself craving not only the food but the ambiance The Dessert Lady has to offer. I seem to find any excuse to revisit The Dessert Lady. It so happened that my dearest friend has never stepped inside this luscious shop. Oh well, I guess I have to (wink, wink) extend our wonderful evening by taking a short hop over to downtown.

Glass doors open up to an ornately furnished space with chandeliers and plush velvet, trying to capture the essence of romanticism. I find the ambiance appropriate to check your worries and stresses of the day at the door and relax while pleasing your gourmand heart.

For first time diners I highly recommend the Dessert Sampler (choice of any 4 desserts). Naturally we chose the infamous award-winning Carrot Cake, Chocolate Zuccotto, Coconut Brulee Cheesecake, and the Cannoli Cake.

The carrot cake never ceases to impress me; ultra moist, flavorful with just the right amount of creamy icing paired with crème anglaise and rum soaked raisins.

The Chocolate Zuccotto will please any chocolate lover. Amaretto soaked Chocolate Cake layered with dark and White chocolate Mousse; rich and decadent as chocolate should be.

The Coconut Brulee Cheesecake was a perfect balance of cheesecake; delicate with the right hint of sweetness and crunch from the coconut.

The Cannoli Cake as the name suggests is a spin of the traditional Italian dessert. And The Dessert Lady has certainly captured the essence of the quintessential cannoli with cannoli cream iced with espresso cream icing.

Whether you are on a date or simply catching up with your girl friends, Ms. Patti Schmidt has transformed this cozy space into an intimate ambiance with delicious offerings to please any sweet tooth.  The key of course is sharing with the substantial portions. Why not, share the love?
